Well it's arrived but has anyone had the courage to download it yet.
What I am wary of is that if you don't like it then there would appear to be no going back. I also don't know how to save or transfer any of the settings etc which I have come across over the years of using my system.

been playing about with it today ,i find it ok ,a lot better that win 8 ,which i found to be a load of crap , a bit confused about your views on it auguste1 ,i installed it on a different partition to my present operating system which is vista , so i have a option to start up either vista or win 10 , so if i don't like it i can get rid and revert back to just using vista ,unless your on about upgrading your present operating system to win 10 instead of a clean install and you think you cant revert back to your present system if you feel the need to , you can install a dummy run of win 10 to see what's it all about

I eventually bit the bullet and installed 3 days ago.
Advantages.  It's free !
                   Shiny advertising.
Disadvantages. Everything else.
I don't think I got a clean install to be fair. I had a blank screen hang but with lights flashing on the computer for an hour. All Microsoft help options are online and as I was unable to access anything I had to call a slightly dodgy help line from GURUaid . I was able to effect an install after a " hard reboot " but had to listen to an even harder sell for guruaid's services.
When I was up and running I accessed Microsoft's website and they confirmed I was fully installed. They were actually very good.
As an outsider in the Computer World it looked to me that they had just laid 10 over the top of 7. The home screen was the same with a new start button in the bottom left corner and alongside a search area. You typed in your search terms and the reults came up on Edge , the new browser. This sounded quite good but when you used it there was no time advantage as you still had to type in your search and wait for the browser to respond.
Edge is no faster in it's response than IE or Firefox.
The start button revealed various icons which concentrated on selling apps/ games and x box bits etc rather than what you really wanted. You can't disable these bits but you can add to them.
There was a box which seemed to link to my photos and it showed one of them. However, when I placed the cursor in the box it disappeared so what that was all about I don't know.
I played about with it and it wasn't anything special.
I decided to load Cortana , the speaky bit. It dosen't come installed so you have to search the internet for instructions.
First you load a language package , 30 mins download time and then a speech package 5 mins. Then a reboot , 25mins with 3 switch offs and ons.
Then Cortana still doesn't work.
I then threw it out of the " window " and reverted to Windows 7.
A lot of time wasted for nothing.

You are a lot braver than I am!
I have a laptop that has 7 installed and was thinking of trying 10 until I read some reviews - including yours A1.
I have noticed that Linux is getting more popular recently; the number of magazines in Tesco about Linux outnumber the ones about 10.

Microsoft I am informed will support 7 for at least another 5 yrs so if you have a brand new computer it may be viable to go with 10. Mine is 4yrs old already so by the time comes for them to withdraw support it will need replacing.
I can't say the experience was pleasant but as I said it did have problems downloading which probably will not happen again !

my experiences with operating systems suggest it's always better to do a clean install rather than an upgrade. Especially Windoze. o

If it ain't broke don't fix it comes to mind Arrjud.
I really didn't find anything in it which I either didn't have or that I would need to have.Try it and see and you can still revert to your old system but be warned if you revert there are lots of bugs which I can't get rid of. Simple things which are annoying rather than life threatening. Things like typing on this site and the machine overtypes and jumps all over the place. Which is why I only do short blogs because it takes a lot of time to correct it!

Please, please. I need advice. I keep getting a large pop up on my lappy for Windows 10. I looked on here for more information ( it's my first pot of call for good advice) and noticed that it's maybe not always the best...I am happy with my windows 7, my lappy is only for recreational purposes.
How do I get rid of this pop up...All  do is by the red X, but how do I prminatly get rid of it?

You can't get rid of it. Just keep clcking it off. The free loading of 10 expires in July so it should stop then.

You learn something new everyday pen5,  I thought Windows 7 was no longer going to be supported at all, I have just read [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] you can safely use it for another 5 years. winkgrin

When I was offered Windows 10 I took the steps that would allow me to download it if and when I wanted to. I then read the comments on here and decided not to go ahead so just closed down the box whenever it popped up. However ....... I allowed someone to use my computer and suddenly, lo and behold, Windows 10 was downloading amidst comments of "I didn't do anything", "I didn't click on anything"... etc girlpan

So after it was installed I then got an option for express update, which would allow my computer to send data to Microsoft, allow ads I don't want, install apps I don't want. Instead I chose what I wanted (very little of it). I chose to hide Cortana, I'm sure that would really get on my nerves.

Now I'm using it via Firefox, which I usually use. My bookmarks seem to have transferred successfully, as have my documents, pictures etc. I'm wondering if I'll continue to be happy with it, time will tell. At least I haven't got those pesky charms popping up, despite having disabled them.

You can revert in the first 14 days or so if you want to. Mind you when I came back to 7 I did find some files corrupted.

I found 10 very similar to 8 so there won't be such a difference. Being a Luddite , I have got used to 7 and didn't find anything on 10 which said I had to go.
