It means changing in one direction without any wiggles back in the other direction. So, for example, if something is rising monotonically, it means that a value at a later time is always greater than a value at an earlier time.

One of the peak times for electricity and less than 2% being wind generated because there is no wind. Thank god we are not reliant on this horrendously expensive and inefficient source of power.

That's because they get more profit ( supplied by the taxpayer of course ) from windmills etc than normal power stations.

That may be true in the short term, but I'm sure they realise that being subsidised by Government will not continue indefinitely.
They are profit motivated so they must have come to the conclusion that this is the best bet in the longer term.

Hmmm...  I see they've approved the government guaranteed price to be paid to EDF for electricity from Hinckley Point today.   Where do you think that's coming from?  (and of course there'll be the cost of dealing with the radioactive waste on top of that)

Maybe Rockefellers and Global Divest-Invest are convinced of what I read on a banner on a climate action march yesterday -

auguste1's 'theory' doesn't make sense given that fossil fuel subsidies dwarf any subsidies for renewables. IMF figures suggest global subsidies are of the order of $2 trillion per annum.

Plus the costs of the wars to protect supplies.

Wars to protect supplies ? Never heard of coal wars in recent years and as for the other wars in the Middle East, the fact that oil was present in the area never came into it. Trust me .

Good video slicer. Funny, but depressing that such morons can get into positions of power.

A vote for UKIP is a vote for common sense. We can see that this Policy is ridiculous so why can't the Metropolitan elite?

Nice to see that hour by hour over the last couple of days wind turbines have been providing more of your electricity than all those nukes.

Not that any one is (or ever has) claimed that wind alone can provide all the energy we need. Unless we can store it, anyway.

Pity that UKIP want to do away with it, to prevent schools teaching about climate change, and to subsidise the foreign providers of nuclear power.

Why step back in time 200yrs. The reason we got rid of windmills in the first place was that they couldn't be relied upon to do the job.
Fracking is the way forward.

FF: I don't get it... why alter what I said then present it as a quote from my post?

I said that electricity from wind turbines has been exceeding electricity for nukes. Nukes being, of course, nuclear power stations, though you weren't far from the truth when you mentioned bombs, as the two are and always have been inextricably linked.

Never, ever heard of power stations being referred to as nukes, only atom bombs.

There are lots of huge, useless whirligigs I'd like to see 'nuked'. yes

Vote UKIP!!!!

"Luxembourg hands out iodine pills over fears of French nuclear mishap"
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I seem to remember that when the same suggestion's been raised in the UK, it's turned down because the issue of iodine would cause panic and 'the risk is so low'.    And yet, every nuclear power station operator is allowed not to take public liability insurance against this 'very small' risk - because, of course, the cost would make nuclear even less economic.  Instead, the risk is borne by the government on behalf of the public, as yet another hidden subsidy for the nuclear industry.

Of course none of the other energy suppliers are given subsidies are they Peter.
I think you will find we pay through our taxes for ALL energy suppliers and through our wages after tax as well.
Nationalisation by force of law with no compensation to the energy companies ? It certainly has an upside.

That's a long article, Auguste1, full of trademark Mail obsessions, gross generalisations, and omissions. I won't attempt to respond now. Instead, here's a nice diversion, courtesy of a link from @Trumpton_UKIP:
