The girl done good.   Extraordinary that there's this conspiracy of silence over the Prime Minister's constant lying.  Everyone knows that's what he does, just as he has throughout his career.  Yet very few face up to it... the Tories never deny it, but don't challenge it, while Labour are all too mealy mouthed about it.  Today, much of the reaction to Dawn Butler, especially from the right wing, is to vilify her rather than address the issues she raised.

He lies to Parliament, he lies to us,the people, he lies to the Head of State in spite of being her Prime Minister.   He almost certainly lies to his wife, his girlfriends, his Cabinet colleagues, and to himself.

This must be unprecedented in British "democracy"  - and an appalling reflection of where the coup has taken us.  The civilised world looks on in amazement.

It's all to do with charisma Peter.
You can do virtually anything with it and if you don't have it you struggle even if you give everyone in the Country £ 10,000 to go to the shops with.

I read today (OK in the Express) that the government are considering stopping free prescriptions for the over 60's and want to make people wait until they reach state pension age before they are entitled to them.

Anyone else know anything about this?

Here's a [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to the article.

There's a lot of speculation (well, it is the Express) using words like 'may' and 'could', i wouldn't put it pst this government though. o

I used to think The Boris  general indecisive blustering and bufoonery was just an act hiding an  effective leader .
But now thinking it may not be an act thinking

I still think it's an act - but an act to hide his failings as a leader. Still, (as a1 said) it counts as charisma and it works well enough for while. His appeal to voters had been demonstrated in London, and it was recognised by the key people who made sure he was chosen as party leader.

Now he's delivered what they want, Boris is expendable. They'll probably replace him with someone who has a more 'stable' image (Rishi Sunak's my guess) pretty soon, but the broad thrust of policy will stay much the same - unless Labour gets its act together, or the Union breaks up.

A reminder of PPE, corruption, and irresponsibility.  Well done,  Led by Donkeys and the Good Law Project, trying to hold these shysters to account.

Early Day Motion: The Ministerial Code and the conduct of the Prime Minister

As there's no let up in this shower's continuing abuse of democracy and power, my wife and I e-mailed our (Bristol) MP to suggest she signs up....

Can't remember the last time we invited you to sign an Early Day Motion, but this one ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]) seems especially deserving!

We've taken a critical interest in Westminster politics for many decades now - and have to say that the conduct of the Johnson government plumbs depths far beyond anything we've seen before.  Its contempt for parliament, for honouring obligations, for honesty, for the rule of law, and for the electorate itself seems unparalleled in recent history.   You may very well agree with that assessment!

Congratulations to Dawn Butler for raising the matter so clearly in the Commons, and now for tabling the EDM

As you might expect, no Tory MPs have yet signed the EDM.  Still, it might be worth making a similar request to them, at least to make them aware they can't just keep on looking the other way while their leaders lie so blatantly to Parliament and to the nation.  Might get an interesting answer, too!
